It was a dream come true for Anushka Sharma when she got hitched to her beau Virat Kohli at a beautiful vineyard n Tuscany, Italy. She always wanted to get married at a vineyard and Virat just made that possible. The moment when Anushka entered the venue looking like a million bucks, dressed in an elaborate attire by Sabyasachi Mukherjee and with Din Shagna Da song playing from Phillauri, you wished time would just freeze and all you would do is stare at her with all the love and awe. It was a big moment not just for the couple but also for Jasleen Royal, who originally sang the song as she never expected it to be. She was overwhelmed when Anushka chose it on her D-day and had no words to express her joy. As an artist, it’s a matter of honour if a celebrity picks your song for a special occasion or an important day of their life. We are sure you were glad to know that Anushka Sharma had chosen your song for her wedding. Did she ever hint that she’ll pick it? Or was it a surprise?
She mentioned that she loved the song but then again I didn’t know that she loves it that deep enough to make it a part of her most special day. It was a surprise to me definitely and I realised it only when people started sending across her entry videos to me.
Did it ever occur to you that Anushka will really pick her own song for her special day?
Frankly, they both just proved how amazing they are at keeping secrets. I am sure even if we were aware of it, she wouldn’t have shared the song that she would have chosen.
Who was that one actress you always wanted to sing for?
I want to sing for everyone. I just got to sing and compose for Rani Mukerji and it feels unreal!
Post this, are you getting any more offers on similar lines and will folk be always your forte?
There is a lot in the pipline. Luckily I was able to be a part of very diverse projects and they all received a lot of love from everyone around. There are more offers at this point of time with a few releases lined up.
From all the songs that you have sung in Baar Baar Dekho, Shivaay, Khoobsurat, Dear Zindagi and Phillauri, is there any favourite of yours?
I can’t choose one song like that! I like them all depending on my mood, location, people I am with, what I am doing, the weather outside! There is a different song for every setup!
How difficult is it to be a music composer and a singer at the same time?
Being a composer and singer at the same time its actually better for the final outcome. At times the singer in you has to take a back seat for the composer to deliver something that really connects with a different voice may be no matter how badly you want that song in your voice. You take calls based on the situations and there is always a tussle between the two.
From Katrina, Alia and Anushka – whose personality do you think suits your voice?
I want to say all of them.
Did you ever get to interact with Anushka while filming Phillauri?
Yes, a couple of times, and I find her to be one of the most hard-working people I have met. She is really inspiring and enterprising with all of that talent.
