Akshay Kumar, of late, has started choosing films with a strong social message. With Toilet – Ek Prem Katha, he marked his love for the social genre and now the trend continues with PadMan in the pipeline for next year. Toilet – Ek Prem Katha that brings forth the issue of India’s struggle with sanitation facilities has now made an impact worldwide and we have none other than Bill Gates taking to social media to talk about the film.
America’s most popular business magnet Bill Gates recently tweeted about the round-up of 2017 in which he mentioned, “Toilet: A Love Story, a Bollywood romance about a newlywed couple, educated audiences about India’s sanitation challenge.” When Akshay Kumar was asked about Bill Gates applauding the concept of the film, he reportedly was overwhelmed. While he expressed his excitement about how people in the U.S. are appreciating the film, he also believes that the country as a whole needs to improve a lot.
However, Akshay Kumar is assertive that we are heading in the right direction. The actor went on to add that although last year the percentage of population defecating openly was 54 percent it has now been reduced to 38 percent. Bhumi Pednekar, who played the leading lady in the film, too believes that this appreciative tweet from Bill Gates will bring about a positive impact. She further went on to state about how hazardous open defecation is for a woman’s health and dignity.
On the other hand, director Shree Narayan Singh, who was obviously thrilled with Bill Gates’ gesture, gave the credit to the writers of the film, Siddharth and Garima. Not only did he thank them for developing this concept so beautifully but also believes that their writing was the reason why the film could resonate with the audience and that it was also responsible to bring about a social change.
